Hello, neighbors!
This season has presented us with a few challenges regarding the ditch running through our service area, and we want to address them in a friendly way. It seems that some folks have been creating obstacles for the water flow by trying to dam up sections or not keeping the lateral ditches on their properties tidy. We know everyone means well, but these actions can lead to problems for our entire community.
Why It Matters
Recently, we discovered a situation where someone had built a dam in the ditch with boulders and debris. You can see our Ditch Rider, Todd standing in the ditch in the attached picture, showing just how significant this blockage was. Unfortunately, it caused water to back up and resulted in flooding for properties upstream. This isn’t the first time this season we’ve faced these sort of issues due to overgrown weeds and trash obstructing the water flow. When the ditch is blocked, it creates challenges not just for those downstream but also for our neighbors upstream.
A Friendly Reminder
To help keep our water flowing smoothly and to show respect for our neighbors, we kindly ask everyone to keep their sections of the ditch clear of debris. By doing this, you’re playing an essential role in ensuring that water can flow freely for everyone. Together, we can prevent flooding and protect each other’s properties and homes!
Important Update on Ditch Service
As we look ahead, we want to give you a heads-up that we may need to close the ditch on September 28. This will depend on how much water we can let flow from the Truckee River to keep things moving smoothly. With everyone’s cooperation, we hope to extend this timeline to September 30 or even October 1.
